A brief review of Google Pixel 4XL

Google promises fantastic camera setup in its Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL. But if you look around, you will see that many of flagships from other manufacturers also offer top quality cameras. And come phones even come with the night mode which is also being offered in Google Pixel 4/4XL. If you ask about the feature which Google Pixel 4/4XL do not offer, there are a few and those are the substantial ones; for instance, expandable storage, free earbuds, and free unlimited photo storage.

From the perspective of performance and camera quality, Pixel 4XL is a great phone; but it is quite expensive, i.e. $900 for 64GB model and $1,000 for 128GB model. So, when you will compare this phone with other equally capable but less pricy handsets, you are probably going to realize that this phone doesn’t have much to offer for a price that is obviously quite higher.

Difference between Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL

  • The first difference between both phones to talk about is the price. Pixel 4XL costs $100 more than Pixel 4. Pixel 4 64GB model costs $799, while Pixel 4XL 64GB model costs $899. There is a price increase of $100 on both phones if you want to upgrade to 128GB versions.
  • Pixel 4XL is bigger than Pixel 4. The dimensions of Pixel 4 XL are 6.3 x 2.9 x 0.3 inches while Pixel 4 measures 5.7 x 2.7 x 0.3 inches.
  • The bigger size of Pixel 4XL makes it heavier than Pixel 4. Pixel 4XL weighs 6.81 ounces (193 grams), while Pixel 4 weighs 5.71 ounces (162 grams).
  • Another difference between both phones is the display. With a smaller screen, Pixel 4 comes with a FHD display and a pixel density of 444ppi. On the other hand, the Pixel 4XL comes with a QHD display and a pixel density of 537ppi.
  • The bigger difference between two phones is the battery. Pixel 4 is equipped with a 2,800-mAh battery for which the phone continues to get negative reviews. On the other hand, Pixel 4XL comes with a 3,700-mAh battery, which lasts decently longer over a single charge.

Camera
Camera of Pixel 4XL is an impressive feature. The camera hardware in conjunction with its software is capable to take photos which are colorfully rich, sharp, and have great contrast. There is a telephoto lens to help you get a zoomed-in shot of the objects. It offers 2X zoom. You can even enhance it further with digital zoom which, interestingly, works pretty well.

Another feature of Pixel 4XL camera is its night mode. Using this mode, the photos taken in low light are brightened and sharpened up.

Pixel 4XL design
The salient features of Pixel 4 XL’s design include a prominent camera bump on the rear, a new orange color variant, and an expansive screen that measures 6.3 inches. Unlike Pixel 3XL, this phone doesn’t feature a notch. Instead, the top bezel of the phone is bigger enough to house the front cam and a number of other sensors.

Another great design feature of this phone is the higher (90Hz) refresh rate of screen. This feature makes scrolling and gameplay quite a smoother experience.

Performance and battery
Both Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL are equipped with Snapdragon 855 chipset which places both handsets in the category of handsets with best processing capabilities. Tasks like launching an app, scrolling through social media timeline and playing games shouldn’t be a problem with Pixel 4/4XL.

Unlike Pixel 4, the battery performance of Pixel 4XL is pretty decent. The phone’s battery lasted 15 hours and 15 minutes during a test of continuous video playback. That’s much better than Pixel 4 which lasted 10 hours.
